‘General Hospital’ News: Sonya Eddy, GH’s Epiphany, Adds Incredible New Role to Impressive Acting Resume

For the past 20 years, Sonya Eddy has built a resume that would make most any character actor envious. Think of a hit show and she was on it. From comedies to drama, TV and movies, Eddy has done it all. But for legions of ‘General Hospital’ fans, she will always be the unshakeable Epiphany Johnson who puts the fear of God into the doctors, nurses, interns and staff of GH.

Eddy’s most recent role is in the new movie “Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday.” The movie features a huge cast of stars including hottie Joe Manganiello, Laurence Fishburne, David Arquette and, of course, Pee-Wee Herman himself Paul Reubens. Eddy recently compared working with Reubens to working with another comedic genius – Robin Williams – whom she met working on Patch Adams.

Eddy compared Williams and Reubens and the intensity with which they became immersed in their roles. She’s also worked with other world-class actors including Samuel Jackson with whom she did Coach Carter, Oscar winner Nicolas Cage on Matchstick Men, and Steve Carell on The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.

She’s also been on almost every hit TV show you can think of – from Seinfeld to Home Improvement, Gilmore Girls to House MD, and ER to Malcolm in the Middle. More recent hit TV appearances include Glee, 2 Broke Girls, The Middle, Fresh Off the Boat and Girl Meets World. Eddy has even worked with controversial, but talented actor Shia LaBeouf on the hit kids show Even Stevens.

Sadly, Robin Williams took his life last year in August. When news of Williams’ death made headlines, Eddy tweeted, “I just heard @robinwilliams has passed. #GoneTooSoon He was a FABULOUS man who was very kind to me @ the start of my career… #RIP” then later she tweeted another message adding “I just can’t believe it… I’m reeling & wrecked.”

Of course Sonya Eddy’s acting chops are impressive, but when she’s embodying Epiphany Johnson, at least part of her role isn’t so much play-acting as actual knowledge. Eddy is a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the state of California. This profession is known as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in most other states. So when Eddy talks about IVs and medical stuff, she really does know her stuff.

Be sure to tune in to see Sonya Eddy in Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday. The movie is the first big feature production by Netflix and will be released in March 2016. And for all those Epiphany fans, don’t miss a day of General Hospital – you never know when she’ll pop up at the nurse’s station ordering folks around and scaring them into submission!
