“General Hospital” (GH) news includes a sad message from Jason Thompson (Dr. Patrick Drake). The actor has confirmed he is leaving the ABC daytime drama – a role Thompson played for over 10 years.

Jason made the announcement via Instagram saying it was a difficult decision to leave behind a character he loved playing. Thompson feels it is time to “hang up Dr. Patrick Drake’s white coat and scrubs.” The actor went on to thank ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee, ABC Executive Vice President Vicki Dummer, and “GH” executive producer Frank Valentini for their support and understanding.

“General Hospital” changed the actor’s life and he will be forever grateful to the fans for embracing him when he joined the soap opera as Patrick Drake over a decade ago. Jason Thompson also thanked the “GH” crew, producers, writers, directors, cast mates as well as “those in my home away from home, the make-up room.”

“I can’t possibly begin to tell you what you mean to me. Most importantly, I would like to thank the fans,” Jason posted. “I am forever grateful for your love and support.” Thompson ended the post by saying, “I mean these words from the bottom of my heart: GH is family to me, and I will miss you all dearly.”

Rumors have been circulating for weeks that Jason Thompson was leaving “General Hospital” so this does not come as a complete surprise. There is much speculation about where Jason will land next, and with Burgess Jenkins out as Billy Abbot on “The Young and the Restless” many viewers think Jason Thompson may be the new Billy.

“General Hospital” viewers will miss Jason very much. There is no word yet regarding how Dr. Patrick Drake will leave Port Charles or if the role will be recast.
