‘General Hospital’ Interview: Rebecca Budig Dishes on – Hayden and Nikolas The Next GH Super Couple

“General Hospital” (GH) spoilers tease that Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig) and Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher) may become more than just – friends with benefits? A real romance could be brewing and they may just become the next super couple of Port Charles.

In an interview with ABC Soaps in Depth – September 14 through September 28 – Rebecca Budig said that in the two months Hayden and Nikolas have spent together that there hasn’t been any real storyline for the duo. A changing of the guard – two new co-head writers – could change all that. Right now it’s difficult to predict what may – or may not – happen on Cassadine Island.

There so many secrets and lies that Nikolas Cassadine is keeping from Hayden Barnes. And Hayden may be lying to Nikolas too – she might just be faking her amnesia. But they wouldn’t be the first soap opera couple to overlook a few lies and secrets and find love. Hayden is beginning to have flashes of memory and about the short – but explosive – past that she has shared with Prince Cassadine. In the interview Rebecca said, “I find it curious that in two months [in a coma] no one claimed her [Hayden]. Nobody came looking for her. There’s no one in her life? Why? I feel there’s a story there.”

Imagine Hayden Barnes and Nikolas Cassadine put aside the secrets and the lies and a full blown romance begins. With her ability to lie with a straight face, and his connections – and mastery of manipulation – Hayden and Nikolas could become the next super couple of Port Charles. Tyler Christopher says, “Even though we’re plotting against the world, so to speak, there’s got to be something going on internally between the characters.”

Will new “General Hospital” head writers Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman write a romance storyline for the two buddies with extras? Is it possible they’re going to write in a character that will come to Port Charles to claim Hayden just as she and Nikolas begin to find love? Tyler is interested to see where the new “GH” head writers will take Hayden Barnes and Nikolas Cassadine. “Keep in mind what we’re up against. We’re in the middle of a writing change, so it’s kind of hard to predict where this couple’s journey will take them.”

“General Hospital” fans are you rooting for Nikolas and Hayden to find romance instead of sex, sex, sex all the time? Prince Cassadine hasn’t had a love interest since he kicked Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) to the curb – and Hayden hasn’t had ANY love interest – unless you count Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) or Jake Doe/Jake Barnes – aka Jason Morgan (Billy Miller)? We’ll just need to wait and see what happens when Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman take the reins of the writing team at “GH.”
