- Rick had a #1 hit with his song “Jessie’s Girl” in 1981,in both Australia and the U.S. Which he received the Grammy award for best male rock vocal.
- In 2010, he published his auto biography, Late, Late night: A Memoir.
- Rick is the son of Norman Spring Thorpe, an Australian army career officer.
- In 1978, Rick played the character of Zac in Battlestar Galactica.
- In 1984, Rick made a full length feature film titled Hard to Hold, and in 1998, he played in the film Legion.
- Rick appeared in Hawaii Five-O playing the role of a photographer Renny Sinclair.
- In October 1984, he married his girlfriend Barbara Porter, in his family’s church in Australia.
