‘General Hospital’ (GH) Spoilers: Liz Marrying Jake in November, Committing Bigamy – Broken Moral Compass?

“General Hospital” spoilers revealed that Jake Doe AKA Jason Morgan (Billy Miller) and Liz Webber’s (Elizabeth Herbst) wedding would be November 6, 2015. You can bet the wedding will last about a week on the show. Questions have arisen lately about the legality of Liz marrying Jake. Is he even about to apply for a social security number?

Jake is still legally married to Sam Morgan (Kelly Morocco). If Liz marries Jake, she willingly commits a crime because she KNEW he was Jason Morgan. She’s getting pretty good at telling lies; in fact, it seems like lately she is starting to believe her lies.

In the eyes of the law, Jason would need to be deceased for seven years before being declared dead without a body. Since Jake is living among Port Charles, it’s safe to assume that they never had a body to declare. It hasn’t been seven years, and so therefore legally speaking- Jake (and Jason) is still married to Sam.

In order to get married in all 50 states, you would need to provide a birth certificate and proof of any dissolved marriages. Since Jake would not be able to come up with either, the marriage would not be legal. At the same time, Sam’s marriage to Patrick (Jason Thompson) would not be legitimate, either. She is still legally married to Jason until seven years has passed, or they find his body.

There was speculation about Sam having legal paperwork declaring Jason dead dating last year. If that is true, her marriage to Patrick would be legal; however, Jake to Liz still would not because Jake is really Jason- therefore, not dead. The fact that Liz is willingly committing bigamy speaks volumes about her character. All she needs to do is confess to Jake about his true identity- saving herself from any legal ramifications.
