‘General Hospital’ (GH) Spoilers: Anna Devane’s Dark Side – Will She Embrace Her Inner Killer?

Anna Devane [Finola Hughes] is back with a vengeance, but don’t expect her to be the Anna we’ve seen in decades past. Anna has been through some major traumas of late – Duke Lavery [Ian Buchanan] was gunned down by Carlos Rivera [Jeffrey Vincent Parise] and then Anna, in turn, gunned down Carlos. Add to that Anna bedding Kyle Sloane [Robb Derringer] when Duke was barely cold, and it’s not pretty.

What we will see in coming weeks is that Anna is a mess inside, not matter how polished her professional exterior may be. Hot on the heels of Anna’s return, Sloane betrayed Anna and pretty much told her that since she won’t be his girlfriend, he won’t play nice with her. Then Sloane revealed he kept the gun she used to shoot Carlos and it has Anna’s fingerprints on it. This threw Anna off.

It’s quite possible that Anna came back to Port Charles with the best of intentions. Anna wanted to right the wrong done to Felicia Jones [Kristina Wagner] when Mayor Lomax [Saidah Ekulona] and her cronies Sloane and Nikolas Cassadine [Tyler Christopher] stole the election, but Sloane cut Anna’s plan off at the knees when he chose money and Nik over Anna because she gave him the cold shoulder.

What’s worse, Anna went on record with Commish Jordan Ashford [Vinessa Antoine] about the rigged election when she tried to cut an immunity deal for Sloane. Now Anna has to try and back pedal with Jordan without confessing to Carlos’ murder. The end result is that Anna feels backed into a corner and unable to accomplish the goals she had in mind when she came back to Port Charles.

The bottom line is that a cornered Anna is a dangerous Anna… Finola Hughes told Soaps in Depth that,

“It would be lovely to explore that [dark] side that she knows she has to hold in check.” We may see Anna’s dark side unfurl very soon and there’s no telling what the outcome will be for Anna and those around her – but the fallout spells danger.

In mid-October, there will be a major shift in Anna’s storyline that spoilers reveal will send her into a spiral. This is life-changing, catastrophic stuff heading Anna’s way. It turns out that someone else knows that Anna killed Carlos. But who could it be? My money is that it’s Nikolas that knows and he got the information straight from Sloane’s big mouth after Anna jilted the former head cop.

Sloane likely told Nik to convince him he had Anna under control and that she wouldn’t continue to press on the election rigging anymore because if she does, Anna will face her own stay in Pentonville for murder. So why would Nik or Sloane blow up Anna’s secret? To serve their own ends, of course. Also, if Nikolas and Sloane were talking about Anna shooting Carlos, someone else could have overheard.

Hayden Barnes [Rebecca Budig] is at Wyndemere and is all ears these days, so she may also know about Anna and may try to leverage Carlos’ murder to her own advantage. Anna doesn’t have a badge to hide behind as she pushes her agenda, so that means she can’t bend anyone to her will with governmental power. But this also frees Anna up to act outside the law – which she’s done before.

Anyone remember what she did to Cesar Faison [Anders Hove] when he threatened her loved ones? Beware an Anna scorned! And, here’s one last thing to consider about Anna’s shady journey. We know that Sloane is back for a short run and rumor has it, he’ll be killed within the next few weeks. Could it be Anna that puts a bullet in Sloane like she did with Carlos?

If Anna is the one that offs Sloane, will it be in self-defense, in cold blood, or to protect herself from Sloane’s threats? Time will tell, but suffice it to say, Anna is not the clean cut, above-board, law enforcement officer we’ve seen over the years. Look for Anna to get into the trenches and fight dirty. Expect some vigilante justice delivered with cool British flair – against all the criminals in Port Charles!
