On “DOOL” last week Salem said goodbye to one of its original and most loved resident. Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) was laid to rest surrounded by family and friends. Bo passed away in the park in the arms of his true love Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) shortly after learning he had a malignant brain tumor. Bo’s death sent Hope on a path of revenge that no one has been able to deter her from. Steve (Steven Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) tried to talk Hope out of her plan. However, after seeing visions of Bo and hearing him tell her to seek revenge Hope is bent on fulfilling the mission that she believes the love of her life is sending her on.
The only person who seems to have her back is Rafe (Galen Gering). While it is not quite clear that he is on board with what she is doing he is willing to do whatever it takes to help her get closure.
The storyline works really well because it is almost as though Bo’s spirit is guiding Rafe and Hope on this mission of seeking justice. No one else is willing to help her, but Rafe is going to stand by her side and help her do what needs to be done. This storyline also works because it helps to heal Hope. While she will never forget Bo because he is the great love of her life; by seeking justice for what happened to him it can help her to move forward. Rafe will be the man to help her do that in a way that her family can’t. If Steve or Roman (Josh Taylor) had helped her she would still be stuck in that family situation and she would never heal her heart. Rafe will be the man to heal her heart.
While the Brady’s were grieving for one of Salem’s beloved sons Abigail (Kate Mansi) and Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) were out in the cabin in the middle of nowhere as Abby continued to struggle to care for her premature son. Ben continued his downward spiral into insanity as Chad (Billy Flynn) continued to harrass the police to do something to help him locate Abigail. Chad became more insistent once he remembered that Ben was the Necktie Killer. When the Police got a lead that Ben and Abby had last been spotted in a small town with a midwife Chad decided that he couldn’t wait for the police to do something. Once Rafe told Chad that the police could not go out to look for Abigail due to the major snow storm Chad decided to dash out to the mountain cabin to save Abby and her baby.
This story has some major flaws, but it could work. The first big issue for Chad is that he has no idea what type of situation he is walking into. Knowing that Ben is unstable and likely to snap at any moment why would Chad go running into the situation unarmed and without any knowledge of the terrain or circumstances? The second issue is the baby. There is a premature baby in the cabin so how is Chad supposed to rescue the baby and Abby at the same time?
Ben has been in control this whole time. If he is going to light the bed on fire why didn’t he use that kerosene to keep the cabin warm while Abby was there and in labor and to help keep his baby warm Another issue is the way Abby is dressed. She has on capri pants, flip flops and a tank top in the dead of winter when everyone else is wearing winter coats.
