Former “Days of Our Lives” actress Diana Douglas has died on Saturday, July 4 after a long battle with cancer according to The Hollywood Reporter. Diana Douglas, formerly Diana Dill, was an actress and also the mother of Michael Douglas.
Diana Douglas’ film credits spanned seven decades and included appearances in movies as well as television. Diana was most known for her roles in the films, Trains and Automibles, It Runs in the Family, and Planes.
Diana Douglas also played Martha Evans on the hit daytime soap Days of Our Lives. If you do not remember, Martha was the mother of twin daughters, Marlena and Samantha, who were played by Deidre Hall and Andrea Hall. Douglas appeared on Days of Our Lives from November 1977 to February 1979. Douglas would reprise her role in May 1982 when it was thought that Marlena has been murdered by the Slam Strangler. It later turned out that Sam was the one who was killed.
In addition to appearing on Days of Our Lives, Diana Douglas has appeared on various television shows including Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, Dynasty, The Paper Chase, Dallas, The Cowboys, and Knots Landing.
Diana Douglas was married to Kirk Douglas for eight years before they divorced in 1952. Douglas is the mother of Michael and Joel Douglas. After Diana divorced Kirk Douglas, she married Bill Darrid and was married to him until he died in 1992. In 2002 Diana Douglas married a former treasury official in Nixon’s administration.
