‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) Interview: Writers Josh Griffith and Dena Higley Reveal DOOL Future Plans, On-Set Details

“Days of Our Lives” writers – Josh Griffith and Dena Higley have big plans for the NBC daytime drama. In the latest Soap Opera Digest, Griffith and Higley reveal where the show may be headed in the next few months. There could be a big mystery on the show. They hope to bring the romance, suspense, and action to a new level during November sweeps. The writers were brought on the show in hopes to bring new life to the soap.

In early 2015, it was rumored that “DAYS” could be canceled if ratings didn’t improve over the next few months. As a radical move, the executives fired the writers and hired Higley and Griffith. They had extensive script writing experience with other popular soaps. They took over in Feb. 2015; however, their scripts were not seen on “DOOL” until last week.

Critics of the long-running soap believe that unless something changes the show could be canceled next year. It seems like a daunting task for the new writers to save the show from a soapy death. Many fans are speculating that even with new writers, the show could face a cancelation in September of 2016. Rumor has it that by the end of 2015, NBC executives will make a decision of the fate of the show.

The writers aren’t letting the pressure get to them and they are excited to be writing for “DAYS.” Griffith told Soap Opera Digest that “Days of Our Lives” has been a soap that could always portray mysteries very well. He noted the “DOOL” romance storylines are fantastic compared to the other soaps on the air. Do you think “Days” will be canceled next year?

Josh Griffith noted that the general mood on the set has been fantastic. The actors are excited about the new material. The writers are thrilled to be working with actors who are eager to make “Days of Our Lives” the best soap on television. Higley reported that the egos and mistrust on the set had disappeared. She said, “Everyone seems to enjoy working together, and it is helping them write the best material possible.”
