“As The World Turns” (ATWT) alum Martha Byrne has been an advocate for children and charities for decades. One of the many charities Martha is bringing awareness to this holiday season is Stockings with Care. Martha tweeted to fans on Monday, November 30 that there were 100 more children who need Santas for Christmas. Byrne asked that if you cannot be a Santa for a child then please give whatever you can. “100 more kids need Santas!! If you can’t sponsor a child then give if you can and the elves will shop for you! Xo http://stockingswithcare.org .”
The 24th Annual Stockings with Care Gift Drive and Santa’s Workshop will take place on Thursday, December 10 and Friday, December 11. The goal of Stockings with Care is to provide children with Christmas gifts specifically requested by the child. The charity is based in New York City and helps children whose family lives in a homeless shelter or are in danger of being homeless.
The Stockings with Care Santas receive a wish list for a child and provide up to three items on that list and drop them off at Santa’s Workshop. The Stockings with Care elves organize the gifts and prepare them for delivery. The gifts are delivered to the parents or guardians who present the gifts to the children. By allowing parents or guardians to deliver the gifts it preserves the dignity of the child while ensuring the gifts received are the exact ones the child wished for.
Martha Byrne is passionate about this cause and asks if you live in the New York City or surrounding areas to please become a Stockings with Care Santa. If you can’t be a Santa or do not live in the NYC area you can donate money and the Stockings with Care elves will do the shopping for the children on your behalf.
“ATWT” fans – or anyone else – can visit the Stockings with Care website for more information. Monetary donations can be made directly to the charity via the website.
