It’s always interesting when the audience knows more than a character on ‘The Young and the Restless’. In this instance, Sharon (Sharon Case) thinks that ‘Shylan’ is solid, which is only somewhat true. But Y&R fans know that this fictional reality is far different and that Sharon’s life will change dramatically very soon.
Dylan (Steve Burton) recently agreed to take an undercover assignment. Despite the fact that Paul (Doug Davidson) and Christine (Lauralee Bell) were deeply concerned about his state of mind, Dylan insisted that he was prepared to work.
Sharon has been telling people that Dylan deals with problems, including the recent mega reveal that Sully-was-Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) all along, by diving into his job. But Mr. McAvoy isn’t a desk jockey at the Genoa City Police Department like Kevin (Greg Rikaart). No, Dylan is a detective who’s embraced a tenuous task. He thinks that doing so will allow him to regain perspective.
Even though Sharon just recently saw Dylan holding Sully (yes, Sully) in his arms, she’s convinced herself that all is okay. Of course, her husband was simply projecting the memory of that boy into their living room at the cottage. If anyone should recognize a poor soul who is on the verge, or already has had a mental breakdown, it’s Sharon.

Devoted viewers are aware that Burton’s final scenes will play out during the next few weeks. How this attempted drug cartel bust unfolds isn’t yet known. But Y&R fans still hold a higher level of awareness about current matters than Sharon does.
Viewers can choose to see Case’s character as a sympathetic figure, even considering the terrible mistake she made by withholding Christian’s paternity information from her husband and Christian’s parents. Well, Nick (Joshua Morrow) might not be that boy’s dad. But that’s another story entirely.

Any wife’s life would shift if her spouse opted to work out of town, albeit on an intended temporary basis. But Dylan’s choice will also (at least) lead to ‘Shylan’s’ indefinitely split.
