Vickie (Amelia Heinle) recognized the man she loved on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Billy’s (Jason Thompson) bedside plea to his mother touched his ex-wife. Whether Jill’s (Jess Walton) current health crisis will spurn the revitalization of ‘Villy’ is yet to be told.
A fabulous Friday episode (in the United States) reaffirmed that Y&R can be great again. Yes, fictional worlds do veer over the rails during certain periods of time and can be accurately labeled as having been subpar at one point. Savvy viewers understand that personality type drives perception and so there has been, is and will likely always be a segment of the audience that pines for yesterday. Yet hope is alive in Genoa City today for those who believe it exists.

Thompson must be written completely past the controversial storyline where Billy thinks Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) is an acceptable alternative to his former wife. Vickie is the love of his life and the mother of his daughter. Like many viewers, he’s made his share of mistakes and he’s also capable of growth.

No Y&R character, or fan, is an expert on Billy’s life and therefore all individuals are incapable of actually knowing what his future will be. Opinions can surely be offered. But at this moment in history Vickie’s take is the only one that truly matters. If she decides to take another risk, the possibility of ‘Villy’ lives.
Some people take loved ones for granted. Billy knows that he’s undervalued his mother, Victoria and others through the years. However, his sincerity during this moment of crisis shouldn’t be dismissed.
Many viewers understand the effort and talent it takes to produce a one-hour serialized drama. Those considered souls also recognize that Y&R’s current regime is working to restore each episode of this iconic soap opera to must-watch status.

While real life will always take precedence over a television show, watching this particular steamer allows committed viewers a chance to escape from reality. When Y&R is at its best it also allows fans to see themselves within the characters and the situations they face. During those moments this show, along with all forms of art, is great.
