The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Phyllis Protects Relationship – Philly Thesis Deserves Further Consideration

Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) did the right thing on ‘The Young and the Restless’. She jetted for Hollywood as soon as she heard Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) voice in the background of her phone conversation with Billy (Jason Thompson).

Another humorous scenario took place after Phyllis arrived. She tried to talk the hotel clerk into giving her Billy’s room key, using an old business card that showed the name Phyllis Abbott. While her effort failed, the sincere approach wore the clerk down and he provided Billy’s room number.

Vickie and Billy were on the rooftop of the hotel as Phyllis was faking it on the ground floor. The real outdoor shot that Y&R filmed took place on a windy day, as the actor’s hair evidenced.

Kudos to the show for presenting a gorgeous real life setting, which included the city backdrop. Of course viewers knew that the cast simply relocated from the other California location where Y&R is filmed, rather than having flown in from Wisconsin.

Billy recently repositioned his heart. His connection with Phyllis stretches back to end of the Burgess Jenkins’ (Billy) run. Thompson’s arrival in January 2016, served to establish a path to ‘Philly’ believability. Tognoni and Thompson went on to create true chemistry.

Yes, Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) and Billy Miller (Billy) wouldn’t have clicked, as the characters they played during their eras weren’t a match. But soap opera’s long forms allow for different looks and reimagined pairings.

While it remains true that Vickie is Billy’s original soul mate, the ‘Philly’ thesis continues to earn serious consideration. Stodgy review boards rejected Y&R’s proposal from the jump. But many loyal viewers and those who were initially opposed to the Phyllis-Billy combo have kept watching with open minds.

It’s still too soon to tell if Billy will stick with Phyllis indefinitely. Doing so would mean rejecting Vickie, which would create consequences. Vickie has chosen to not freeze Billy out, or make their co-parenting arrangement difficult for the time being because she still believes her two-time ex-husband can be regained.

New-school Phyllis is softer, but she’ll also need to be fierce to maintain the foothold she’s gained. The battle between both women and Billy’s place in the middle represents a time-tested daytime plot line.
