Jack (Peter Bergman) is generally not a peacemaker on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But he’ll assume that role as Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Dina (Marla Adams) battle each other in Genoa City. Yes, Madame Mergeron’s planned return to the town she once called home will reignite decade’s old wounds.

Know-it-alls consider themselves to be experts on other people’s lives. Apparently, in their minds they have insight into souls beyond their own. But of course they don’t.
Ashley wasn’t John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) biological daughter. So what? That two-word question also represented the attitude Dina held when news first broke back in the 1980’s.
Mother’s Day was invented to honor the efforts that all child-bearing and adoptive parent women make throughout each year. Mothers aren’t perfect. Honest people don’t promote them as such, or take jabs at women who at least do the best that they can. Dina, well, she’s another story, or at least she was.
Her affair, which produced Ashley, is something Y&R viewers never witnessed. Instead they learned about it through scripts, as the show lengthened the Abbott family’s backstory three decades ago.
Soap operas are famous for bringing back characters who haven’t been seen in years. Except for a brief reprisal, Adams hasn’t been a regular on Y&R since Ronald Reagan was in office. Back then certain personality types were certain that he was going to nuke the planet. Various mouths willingly repeated that talking point for years until his efforts provably helped to topple the U.S.S.R. Russia, among other countries has since been restored.
Dina was an actual bomb-thrower. After that liberated person broke her marriage vows and abandoned her three children (Ashley, Jack and Traci, Beth Maitland), she left Wisconsin. John carried on, as all honest men and women do.
Ashley was surprised when Jack recently mentioned that Dina was still their mother no matter what had happened. Taking his cue, reasonable fans should be hoping that amends can be made and that reconciliation occurs.
