Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) shot Adam (Justin Hartley) and then left him to die on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Yet, Miss Mitchell roams free in Genoa City. Somewhat guilt-ridden, Chloe has also rebuilt her relationship with Adam’s (Justin Hartley) widow and her claimed best friend Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan).

Until he’s actually seen again, viewers should work off the plotted point that Adam is dead. Of course it’s logical, if not soapily certain, that he didn’t die. But let’s go with what’s known for now.
Chelsea’s unknown enemy took a dart gun, which was an odd choice, and shot Adam inside the now infamous wooded cabin on the outskirts of town. Paul’s (Doug Davidson) investigation revealed that an accidental explosion resulted in Adam’s death. While there were no signs of foul play, DNA evidence confirmed that Mr. Newman was seemingly blown to bits.
Chloe convinced herself that Chelsea would be better off without Adam. She also never relinquished thoughts of revenge relating to the apparent accidental death her daughter Delia (Sophie Pollono) endured. That, in and of itself, also stands as an unconfirmed crime. No evidence has ever definitively concluded that Adam (then played by Michael Muhney) actually hit Delia on that stark night.

Rationalization is a particularly human quality. Chloe is employing this compartmentalized approach to life, believing in her still-broken mind that she rid the world of a monster. But soap opera storylines, even stretched ones like this one, can be brought to their just ends sometimes.
If Hendrickson’s rumored drop from regular contract status happens this spring, it will become possible that a write-out, or write-down storyline takes place. Hopefully viewers will be shown what Chloe’s kept in her secret shoe box, along with a replay from last September’s Adam sendoff that explains how she located her nemesis and all that she did while there.
Yes, a full climax to this arc might not be given. But fans deserve more answers than have been provided so far. If Chloe is leaving GC again, or will be seen less frequently, the time will be ripe for at least one reveal.
