‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Chelsea Gives Nick A Chance – Chick Flies On Valentine’s Day

Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) finally gave in to Nick (Joshua Morrow) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. After months of flirting, a New Year’s Eve kiss and mutual attempts to talk around their obvious attraction, ‘Chick’ was given the green light on Valentine’s Day.

The test flight of this potential super couple feels a bit tentative, both from a fictional standpoint and in regards to the choice Sally Sussman and her team have made. Because former co-executive producer and head writer Chuck Pratt, Jr. developed the plot path that allowed Chelsea and Nick to grow together, it was never certain that Sussman’s team would keep writing in that direction.

The subsequent slow-walk viewers have been watching since Sussman’s first script was presented on December 7, 2016, appeared to allow the option for these two characters to go in either direction. Savvy fans are aware that influential soap opera sites are monitored by TPTB in Hollywoodland, as part of efforts that gauge audience response to current and intended storylines.

Astute fans also know that entire segments of the audience don’t have to fully endorse a super couple in order for it to be given a go. All mentions of the actors, characters, plot lines and anything related to a soap (or many entertainment enterprises) combine to serve as free promotion. That’s one part of what modern interaction with the fans actually enables.

Chelsea and Nick both lost their spouses unexpectedly last year. Chelsea was Nick’s sister-in-law when Adam (Justin Hartley) was alive. Adam asked his brother to promise to look out for Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois), which viewers knew established the impetus for ‘Chick’ to form.

This scribe is uncertain if the characters that Egan and Morrow portray will prove to be a good fit stylistically. These fictional personalities do have chemistry and the plot pieces that connect them are logical. However, the manufactured nature of their spark will need to be overcome through the presentation of many engaging personal situations.

Sussman’s early efforts to shift Y&R’s plot lines back to Bill Bell’s style of storytelling have been very promising. She has some work to do where ‘Chick’ is concerned. But this pairing option does seem worth exploring. Various Valentine’s Day couples might also agree.
