The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Billy and Cane Switch Places – Commerical Sabotage Tipped the Scales

Billy (Jason Thompson) has been the bad boy on ‘The Young and the Restless’ for many years and through various actors who’ve embodied this character. Daniel Goddard is the only thespian who’s ever played Cane. Despite some past indiscretions, this fictional persona has never been as dirty as he is right now.

Thompson has been given a different avenue to pursue, as compared to Billy Miller, David Tom (during either stint), or Burgess Jenkins. Thompson’s edition of Billy is more vulnerable and surprisingly became Cane’s victim this spring.

Y&R viewers rightly questioned why Cane would pay a videographer to sabotage Billy’s DARE commercial shoot in Los Angeles. That was out of character, even considering the descent Cane had been written into. However, soap viewers often digest the unbelievable where this and other escapist daytime dramas are concerned.

So let’s simply choose to accept where Cane is right now, rather than debating if he would actually have done what he did. Using that starting point, Mr. Ashby has clearly traded places with ‘Billy-boy’.

Billy is currently loved by two impressive women, Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) and Vickie (Amelia Heinle). He’s remained a standup dad and fully embraced his role as Reed’s (Tristan Lake Leabu) father figure again. And, Billy has been a solid part of Brash and Sassy for months.

Cane is loved by Lily (Christel Khalil), despite the fact that he’s betrayed her trust personally (via the Juliet, Laura Allen, incident) and professionally, by completely undercutting her modeling comeback. He damaged Brash and Sassy’s brand in Tokyo and in Los Angeles. And, most incredibly, Cane was preparing to drain the SORAS’d twins school bank account to pay off Jesse the blackmailer.

With no resolution in sight, or seemingly possible, Cane’s already bad reputation is about to be crushed. As soon as Genoa City learns what else this former good guy did his name will be dirt.

Meanwhile, Billy’s standing will continue to rise among those who love him. And this last point marks the difference between both men right now. Billy has been acting with compassion, while Cane has become a self-centered lout. Yes, it’s quite the role reversal.
