Ashley (Eileen Davidson) wants to protect herself and Abby (Melissa Ordway) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That’s why she never voluntarily offered information about Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) in the past. Ashley’s actions were understandable, as the woman who is biologically connected to her hasn’t been mother material to-date.

Abby asked her mom why she doesn’t know her only living grandparent. That’s a great question and one that Ordway’s character was able to raise due to co-executive producer and head writer Sally Sussman and her team mining deep Genoa City history. A useful tool that’s often skillfully used in the soap world.
Longtime Y&R viewers know that Adams was part of the show three decades ago. Introduced to the audience as John’s (Jerry Douglas) former wife from the jump. It was revealed in the ‘Big ’80’s’ that Mr. Abbott wasn’t Ashley’s father, as an affair Dina had produced Ashley. Brent Davis (portrayed by Bert Kramer and Jim McMullan) held paternity honors in that regard.
Interestingly, John never learned that Ashley wasn’t his child. So Dina’s reappearance at this point in time is intriguing, as Ashley previously dealt with this painful revelation.
Adams appeared briefly on the show in recent years, but hasn’t been a key character in a long time. So needed flashback scenes have been offered to refresh the memories of devoted viewer and to educate newer fans.
It’s unknown why Dina has decided to sell Mergeron Enterprises, which she inherited from her husband Marcel Mergeron. That character was never seen on-screen and died in the past. He was never portrayed by any actor.
Might Dina be afflicted with a deadly disease, or other dastardly health condition? If not, does she, or will she want to make peace with Ashley, Jack (Peter Bergman) and Traci (Beth Maitland)?
Ashley doesn’t want Abby to be burned, as she, her siblings and John were. All points noted therefore establish an interesting arc moving forward. As with many things GC, there is sure to be at least one related plot twist forthcoming.
