Roxy Shahidi Opens Up About Leyla’s Pre-Wedding Jitters on Emmerdale

Roxy Shahidi is opening up about her character Leyla on the hit British soap series Emmerdale. Roxy says that not only does she have a lot of things in common with her on-screen character, but that she also completely understands Leyla and why she was having pre-wedding jitters before marrying Adam Barton (played by actor Adam Thomas).

Right before she was set to tie the knot to Adam, Leyla found herself having second thoughts about the decision and of course, her future with her new husband. If that weren’t enough, she also found herself face-to-face with none other than Pete, while musing on whether or not she should continue with the wedding.

Speaking about the scene, Roxy told the Lorraine show that she understands why Leyla is so torn between Adam and Pete. She explained, “Leyla is really passionate about the idea of romance and finding the perfect guy. In the past she’s lost out so many times on that picture-perfect ending. With Pete she sees the opportunity of achieving that and she just wants to grab hold of it. But then she starts to have jitters. I think it’s quite natural.”

What’s more, Roxy also hinted that Leyla and Adam might have been going too fast with their relationship. Even though she wants her dream wedding to come true, she still can’t shake off her true feelings for Pete. Sooner or later, Leyla will be forced to make a decision.

Roxy added, “I think she may also have suspicions about Pete, which she can’t place. Women do have an intuition.”
