Soap opera fans are celebrating exciting news this week as new reports indicate that both ‘The Young and the Restless’ and ‘The Bold and The Beautiful’ have been renewed. The highly-rated soap opera dramas received multi-year pickups for the 2017 and 2018 television seasons. In addition, Y&R received an overall three-year commitment.
According to Angelica McDaniel, Executive Vice President of Daytime Television at CBS Entertainment, she says, “CBS Daytime has never been stronger. From 30 consecutive years of being #1 in the ratings to another year as the most honored Network at the Daytime Emmys, our lineup of talk, game shows and dramas connects with our audience like no one else.”
She added, “All of our talent, on-screen and behind the scenes, is hard at work making the upcoming season of these award-winning series even bigger and bolder.”
Set in the glamorous world of the Los Angeles fashion scene, ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ focuses on the wealthy and powerful Forrester family along with their company, Forrester Creations. ‘The Young and the Restless,’ meanwhile, is about The Newman and the Abbot families and their quest for power and control in Genoa City’s upper-class social circle. The first episode of ‘The Young and the Restless’ aired back in 1973 while ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ debuted in 1987.
‘The Young and the Restless’ averages about 4.93 million viewers while ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ brings in about 3.94 million viewers.
Of course, this means that viewers can expect more drama, surprises, and storylines for the Forrester, Newman and Abbott families.
