Speculation that General Hospital’s Nikolas Cassadine is set to return to Port Charles is burning hotter than ever with recent hints that a new storyline could result in the return of a fan fave. Do execs already have a plan in place to return the Dark Prince to the hit ABC sudser?
Loyal viewers know that the Cassadine family has been on the lips of several Port Charles residents recently, even though papa Nik and his son Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel) are currently off the canvas. Are we being fed clues that will lead to an eventual Nikolas homecoming?
For starters, Anna Devane is about to embark on a mysterious journey that has to do with the diamond that her pint-sized granddaughter Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer) recently showed her. Adorable Emma was bemoaning the fact that she still has the bauble Spencer gave her, when Anna realized that the gem in her little hand may be more than meets the eye.

Super sleuth Anna was right, and in fact Spencer’s gift was a purloined diamond that belonged to the now runaway bride Hayden (Rebecca Budig). Spoilers indicate that Anna will hook up with Finn (Michael Easton), Hayden’s dejected groom-not-to-be, and together they will set off to explore the mystery that surrounds the jewel.
How does Nikolas Cassadine fit into all of this? Showrunners aren’t spilling any direct details, but it’s not difficult to read between the soapy lines. All Finn wants is to find Hayden, but Anna has her eyes on a bigger prize. Could it be finding the presumed-dead Nikolas, thus exonerating her frenemy Valentin (James Patrick Stuart)?
Anna has some fence-mending to do with her old WSB contact, and what better way than to rehab his shadowy rep?
It seems that TPTB are already trying to polish his dark side by having him reach out to scarred and traumatized Ava (Maura West). Plus what better way to redeem the character than reveal he didn’t actually murder Nikolas?
Plus, with former Nik portrayer Tyler Christopher in place at NBC soap Days of Our Lives, the timing is perfect for a recast. Is the writing on the wall, GH fans?
