Days Of Our Lives News: James Lastovic Leaving DOOL?

The good news is that, “Days of Our Lives,” star James Lastovic (Joey Johnson) snagged his first Daytime Emmy Awards nomination. The other news is the controversy one tweet stirred up a few hours later: James’ mom tweeted about his DOOL status, causing fans to worry that he’s out of a job!

In the tweet, which has now been deleted, James’ mom, Lucienne Lastovic, implied that his contract has not been renewed:  “@basia_barb @BroadwayWorld that’s why it’s beyond me that the writers didn’t renew him.”

Once the media reported Basia’s comment, that tweet was deleted and she wrote, “Hope people will stop this speculation of @JamesLastovic Rumours are not good for anyone and only cause hurt for those involved.”

She also wrote: “No official word. I just don’t like seeing so many negative comments Re James. All just speculation from 1 single tweet.” 

Soap exec’s have not commented on Lastovic’s status, and James’ social media accounts have no mention of the controversy surrounding his show status.

What is clear is that Lastovic’s talent has been recognized by the Emmy community. His nomination in the Younger Actor in a Drama Series comes after just a short time in the role of Patch and Kayla’s teen son. Lastovic took over the SORAS’d role in 2015.

He arrived in Salem with a chip on his shoulder, a school delinquent who desperately needed the attention of his loving parents. His dutiful parents brought Joey around only for him to be bogged down by one wanton woman after another.

He’s currently in an on-again, off-again relationship with Jade, a role recently recast with actress Gabrielle Haugh.

Is the writing on the wall? With the recast of Jade, is a Joey recast far behind? It’s not uncommon for TPTB to recast roles with the intention of, “taking a character in another direction.” It makes sense that a different Joey may soon appear opposite DOOL’s new Jade.
