Victor (Eric Braeden) has decided that Travis (Michael Roark) is a straight shooter on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That unexpected assessment was embraced by Vickie (Amelia Heinle), who’s never had her father’s support where Billy (Jason Thompson) was concerned. So, for the moment, ‘Tricky’ has been blessed.
Many viewers have been in the position of wanting to earn the respect of someone’s loved ones. Whether a relationship is just starting, has deepened, engagement is being discussed or marriage is being planned, most people want to get along with a significant other’s lead family members. Travis has one major plus on his side in this instance, he’s not Billy. And, to Victor that makes all the difference in the world.

The aforementioned contrast, combined with the good impression he’s made in Wisconsin to-date, means that Travis has already reached higher ground than nearly all of the Newman family’s other love interests. Of course, Sharon’s (Sharon Case) battles with Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) are legendary. Phyllis (now played by Gina Tognoni) was never welcomed to the Ranch. Various grandchildren can also attest to their own struggles in having the Grand Poobah of Genoa City stick his fingers into their personal lives.
Vickie appeared to be open to a potential ‘Villy’ reunion earlier this year. But, one day she walked into a tavern and Travis appeared in her life. He’s fun, considerate and stable. Yes, she has two children with Billy, will always be connected to him by those bonds and does maintain a certain amount of love for her ex-husband. Yet, a combination of factors, weighed over the course of time, simply set ‘Old Blue Eyes’ on another course.

Whether Victor is able to recruit Travis to Newman Enterprises, as he cheekily implied to Jill (Jess Walton) that he might, is yet to be seen. Roark’s character would certainly be better off avoiding that cauldron. However, in the meantime, with wherever he works, Victor is his ally and that gives ‘Tricky’ a real chance at extended survival.
