‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Vickie Shouldn’t Have Written Travis Off – Unfortunate Ending for Good Character

Vickie (Amelia Heinle) has had relationship difficulties in the past on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That history clearly played into her writing Travis (Michael Roark) off this week. A change in Vickie’s life has been caused by a back office shift in this character’s storyline direction, which is a shame because Roark is a good actor and his character was likable.

Roark confirmed via his Twitter account that he’s left the show. The actor advised, “I made the decision to move onto the next challenge in my career.”

He then thanked the fans, his colleagues and superiors at Y&R, which was a classy gesture. Whether this decision was purely his to make hasn’t been publicly addressed by the show and may never be. However, the parting surely seems amicable.

The ‘Tricky’ arc appeared to have long-term potential when the Travis character was introduced earlier this year. His appearance as the owner of Hank’s Dive Bar clearly telegraphed Vickie’s next love interest.

The rapidity of their bond and resultant chemistry served as a counter to the constant distress Billy (Jason Thompson) injected into Vickie’s life.

Travis initially seemed to be the anti-Billy. He was generally mild-mannered, confident, but not cocky and proved to have a soothing influence over Victoria. However, Michelle’s (Kelly Frye) jet landed from New York and everything quickly changed.

Michelle made a direct offer to her former boyfriend inside a Genoa City Athletic Club suite that was instantly accepted. Travis attempted to cover what happened, as well as his surprisingly lingering feelings. But, Ashley (Eileen Davidson) told Billy what Michelle admitted to and, after wanting to withhold that information, Billy eventually told Vickie how Travis behaved.

It’s fair to wonder what would have happened if Michelle never pursued Travis. But Chuck Pratt directed his writing staff to expand Travis’ backstory into present day. Vickie’s understandable feelings regarding that betrayal served as the climax to a storyline that went south on the final day of Pratt’s reign.
