Pat Benatar isn’t expected to guest star on ‘The Young and the Restless’ anytime soon. However, Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) must have ‘Love Is A Battlefield’ on her play list because she’s waging a fierce war in the fight for the man who still owns her heart. Meanwhile, Jack (Peter Bergman) continues to face weakening resistance and that bodes well for eventual reconciliation.
‘Phack’ could go either way at this point in the plot. Possibly, Phyllis and Jack never reunite, which would be somewhat sad for fans of this former super couple. However, can any viewer reasonably argue that anyone other than Phyllis has been more of a soul mate for Jack since the late Terry Lester first portrayed this character in 1984? No.

Just because two people love each other doesn’t mean they’ll even ask each other out, form a relationship, commit to marriage or endure as a pair indefinitely. All the people who have ever settled for someone they are compatible with, but don’t actually love, have likely done so in order to avoid being alone. There’s nothing wrong with those choices. But those individuals would probably switch places with Phyllis and Jack in an instant so they could experience the completeness of mutual chemistry.
Phyllis’ instincts are right. She knows that Jack hasn’t stopped loving her. Yes, he’s rightfully enraged, but is slowly cooling. Plus, ‘Phack’ survived Phyllis’ betrayal with Nick (Joshua Morrow) all those years ago. And that precedent can’t be discounted.

Jack has pride and so he’ll need more time to recover. Phyllis recently avoided a job transfer to New York, while also getting her ex-husband to acknowledge that he didn’t want her to go (without him actually saying those words). ‘Red’ is making progress. Along with her efforts one factor shouldn’t be forgotten, Jack justifiably tags Victor (Eric Braeden) as the origin of ‘Phack’s’ problems. That point places the ‘Moustache’ as the target of Jack’s hate, not Phyllis.
Jack loves Phyllis. Always has, always will. And maybe, just maybe that will be enough to eventually enable reconciliation.
