‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Nikki And Victor Find A Sweet Spot In Their Marriage, Will They Grow Old Together?

Their connection dates back to the 1980’s on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Now, in what is the twilight of ‘Niktor’s’ relationship, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor (Eric Braeden) have reached a sweet spot in their marriage. The common, possibly collective reaction, questioning how long this reunion is understandable. But, it also misses the intended point.

Victor just served four months of what should have been a 10-year prison sentence. Nikki swallowed her pride, for the umpteenth time, realized her husband’s predicament was unique, even for him, and continued their marriage. As many people know, some soul mates do drift permanently apart, but their connection never really breaks. Within this particular love story, on this specific soap opera, it’s obvious that ‘Niktor’ should survive in the end.

Mal Young has an opportunity now that he’s taken over the reigns of this enduring steamer, ‘The Young and the Restless’. The past regime pushed ‘Niktor’ into another position of interpersonal conflict, which has just been resolved. But, this week both characters spoke honestly about their cycle of strife and how it actually represented deeper feelings of passion. That wisdom needs to hold whenever any future emotional sparks develop within the script.

No one knows how much longer broadcast networks will continue to fund soap operas. It’s no longer reasonable to project any show’s existence beyond whatever renewal period remains. CBS has the ‘The Young and the Restless’ scheduled through 2017. Braden is 75 and Scott is 60. Mortality is only known by God, for all who believe, whereas health issues are somewhat predictable.

Braeden and Thomas are surely wished well by all honest fans. But, for however long these touchstone fictional personalities will be seen on-screen, it would be wise to allow Nikki and Victor to continue to grow old together. Allow battles to continue, but let them be fought against outside forces. Soaps represent escapist entertainment and to that point, balanced minds root for perfectly matched couples and the families they’ve created to survive life’s many challenges.
