‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Hilary Given Power After Telling Countless Lies

Devon (Bryton James) wants to give Hilary (Mishael Morgan) another chance on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Despite the umpteen opportunities everyone has given the former Miss Curtis, love has made this one man only see his wife’s sunny side. So, Katherine’s (Jeanne Cooper) grandson used a bit of the billions she bequeathed to him to purchase GC Buzz. Then, he made Hilary the media outlet’s top so-called reporter.

Hilary clearly wasn’t the only choice to lead the GC Buzz party. But, her husband’s obtained influence allowed her to marry into power. Devon’s bias makes him believe that Hilary is a good choice for this particular position. There’s no doubt that she’s smart, visually appealing and glib. But, every qualified candidate who had far more experience than she does was denied a chance to interview for this open job because personal preference ruled the day. Of course, each viewer’s life experience allows conclusions to be reached regarding whether such fictional dealings were corrupt, or totally okay.

Here’s the problem that Hilary faces: After creating various public scandals during the past handful of years, she’s now been handed a public trust. It’s obvious that Neil (Kristoff St. John) wouldn’t agree with his son’s choice. But, human hearts have ruled minds for eons in the real world and on daytime TV.

The Fourth Estate, aka the media, comes after the legislative, judicial and executive branches of the government. Sure, Hilary can always peer into the ongoing personal scandals within the Abbott and Newman families. But, there are serious political and business issues that deserved to be addressed in Genoa City. How can someone with creative credibility be trusted to attack those topics?

Devon wants GC Buzz to move away from gossip mongering. He’s looking to shift the site’s (and connected television program’s) view toward honest journalism. Making Hilary the face of his new venture doesn’t do that. It was personally wise to give his soul mate a constructive project. But, emotional feelings overshadowed his business judgment in this instance. And, Katherine likely isn’t happy as she looks down from her cloud either.
