‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Family-focused Victor Newman Reappears – Is The Moustache Gone

Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) is well-known by fans of ‘The Young and the Restless‘. Sally Sussman believes in restoring this show’s legacy characters. Such was the case with Mr. Newman on the initial episode of the new head writer’s run.

Braeden’s character was often portrayed as a ruthless business man in days gone by. And he did have many dalliances as well. However, Victor wasn’t often written out of his main character parameters during Bill Bell’s reign. Far too many bizarre arcs have been written in recent years, along with retread storylines that involved Jack (Peter Bergman). In those tales Victor regularly bested his nemesis, as was expected.

Sussman seems likely to restore Victor to his rightful place, which means in the CEO’s chair inside the Newman Towers executive suite. That’s his version of a man cave.

Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) has remained Mrs. Victor Newman for awhile now. Instead of this mature married couple seeking other romantic interests in the near future, Y&R should allow them to embrace grandparenthood. Presented smartly it won’t be mushy, but endearing. A domestic arc that plays out at the newest ranch house would also seem most appropriate in the coming New Year.

Of course Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) will remain central to ‘Niktor’s’ lives. Their children have often occupied significant segments of Victor and Nikki’s time. With the restored philosophy of promoting Genoa City’s top two families (the Newman’s and the Abbott’s) now in place, there will surely be interplay between both clans during many weekdays.

Like many enduring lead male characters, Victor Newman is a complex man. His backstory is deep and can be mined for future ideas. But new adventures, written with style and measured flair could also prove to be appealing. As long as Y&R’s hardcore devotees continue to recognize this character, along with the other familiar faces who are in his life, CBS’ top daytime show has a chance to rebound. If all flows well this soap crowd might also be wowed.
