‘Lane’ fans are heartened on ‘The Young and the Restless’. They don’t like that Cane (Daniel Goddard) recently suffered an injury that required surgery. However, his health procedure opened a new storyline for one of Y&R’s most likeable and enduring super couples.
Lily (Christel Khalil) has often served as Cane’s source of strength and inspiration. Now, with her husband off his feet and in the house, her fortitude will be tested. Cane’s pain will push him to begin using painkillers, which will eventually lead to a tense showdown between these soul mates.

Devoted viewers know that ‘Lane’ has endured its share of trials through the years. Personal betrayal, health scares, Cane’s soapy ‘death’ and resurrection, misunderstandings, work-related issues, familial interference from different angles and two very active twins, among other matters, have put Cane and Lily’s relationship to the test on many occasions. They’ve been together, apart and together again, as so many real life couples can surely understand and relate to.
During the mid-part of this decade loyal viewers have seen that both solid actors were underutilized, or written into various thin plot lines that were generally predictable. Goddard and Khalil previously demonstrated that they are capable of thriving when meaty scripts are available. Hope abounds now that Sally Sussman has taken over the reigns of the writing staff.

A believable scenario would have Neil (Kristoff St. John) become the first to detect that his son-in-law has begun relying on drugs to cope with life. Neil’s own battle with alcohol and subsequent resurgence in recent years serves as a model other troubled souls can learn from. In this specific instance, St. John’s character should become a strict mentor.
Cane’s relationship with the Winter’s family hasn’t always been smooth. However, he’s in a good place now and should place full trust in his father-in-law who will have Cane’s best interests and that of his family at heart. All points referenced indicate that an engaging arc lies ahead for ‘Lane’ and their fans as 2017 dawns.
