Genoa City has seen a tough few months. The fire, the Paragon and Passkey dramas, Billy’s accident. One area in which characters lives have been improving after an agonizingly long time though—romance! Three couples have recently reunited, much to their families’ and fans’ relief. But will these couples survive? What are the odds they will make “this time” work, as soap couples always say they will, but often don’t.
Billy And Victoria
First the couple that looks to be falling apart already: Billy and Victoria. In every scene that features Victoria, Amelia Heinle does a stellar job of looking like the shock of Billy and Phyllis scheming to take back Passkey from Victor without bringing her in on it dawns on her anew. She has said she wants a to share nothing but joint custody with Billy after this betrayal of his, yet can’t seem to make a clean break just yet, finding reasons to track him down and interact with him. His near-death made her see she still loves him, but sometimes love isn’t enough, the two look to be proving. And spoilers point to poor Victoria walking in on Phyllis and Billy hooking up. Things look bleak for these two.
Lily And Cane
Next up: Lily and Cane. Skies ahead are blue and endless for these two. (Then again, this is “Soapland,” so almost no couple stays completely happy for too long). The relief these two feel to finally be back together after Lily’s affair and then their both knowing they belong together, just not being ready to say the words, is palpable—to say nothing of the joy it fills Charlie and Mattie with. So for the foreseeable future: very good odds.
Devon And Hilary
Finally, we come to Devon and Hilary, who have medium good odds of staying together. Devon reacts with discomfort quickly wiped out by lust when Hillary starts nibbling his neck, every time his on-again/off-again/now-on-again paramour makes another comment that comes from the inner viper she has unleashed of late. No longer the sweet, disoriented coma survivor,Hilary has become a social climbing, money and power-obsessed vampire, happy only when she can bring someone else down to fuel her own rise in Genoa City society.
Devon already and rightfully finds this distasteful, if not repugnant. But he also loves Hilary. So, they will give it a try, or at least Devon will, but he can only see this reunion through rose-colored glasses for a limited amount of time until he has had enough. On the other hand, Hilary will probably say and do whatever she feels she needs to in order to keep him in her orbit.
What do you think? Which of these couples has the best chance of surviving the rollercoaster ride that is life in Genoa City? Take our poll below!
