The addition of the Kevin character expanded Michael Baldwin’s (Christian LeBlanc) backstory over a decade ago. The invented contrast of a lead attorney having a brother who was a law-breaker was classic soap, though similar real life links surely exist throughout the real world as viewers would attest. Kevin was introduced to the audience as a creepy guy who was stalking a very young Lily Winters (Christel Khalil). He was subsequently accused of a statutory crime, which resulted in Colleen Carlton (initially played by Lyndsy Fonseca), Lily’s best friend at the time, targeting Kevin via many verbal barbs. Kevin eventually responded by trying to burn Colleen alive, a demented effort which thankfully failed on ‘The Young and the Restless’.
Kevin’s persistently bizarre behavior was eventually linked to his father, Tom (most memorably portrayed by Roscoe Born). He was physically abusive and infamously locked his son from Gloria (Judith Chapman) in a closest when he was a child. Kevin began to confront the mental damage he suffered through therapy and medication.
A later fixation on his brother’s wife Lauren (Tracy Bregman) passed and Kevin finally found true love with Jana Hawks (Emily O’Brien). Sadly, Jana died prematurely of natural causes. However, that life intersection enabled ‘Khloe’ to form.
Chloe appeared to be Kevin’s soul mate and may still be. Even though she isn’t nearly as tortured, Esther’s (Kate Linder) daughter is equally whacky. This power couple combined to commit crimes and create drama in many people’s lives. On an infinitely more serious note, the aftereffects of Delia’s (Sophie Pollono) death became a contributing factor in Kevin and Chloe’s divorce. However, she may have given birth to his child, Bella (Cali May Kinder) without knowing that he’s the genetic father.
The return of Camryn Grimes to ‘The Young and the Restless’ was widely applauded by devoted fans. She was arguably the best child actor in YR’s history. Her recast as Cassie’s twin Mariah allowed the show to correct what many still believe was the biggest plot mistake ever made, killing off Sharon’s (Sharon Case) beloved little girl. ‘Keriah’ initially forged a friendship by sharing information about their somewhat similar childhoods, as Mariah’s younger days were spent under the twisted tutelage of Ian Ward (Ray Wise). This duo appeared to develop romantic feelings as time passed, but Mariah came to believe that Kevin was only a friend.
Mariah realized that she felt more deeply about Kevin when Natalie entered the frame in January 2016. Competition often provokes previously underdeveloped emotions and so Mariah reconsidered whether Kevin was ‘The One’. Natalie’s edge is tied to the fact that she and Kevin are hackers. Life within that subculture helped turn ‘Katalie’ into romantic partners. But, Kevin obviously cares about Mariah and he doesn’t know that Chloe has returned to town, let alone that he could be the father of her second child. So, his three-woman dilemma looms.
