‘The Young and the Restless’ News: Y&R Fights Back Against Victoria Rowell’s Lawsuit

The former, “The Young and the Restless,” actress Victoria Rowell (ex Drucilla Winters) has doubled down in her efforts to sue Sony Pictures for not casting her in roles on their soap operas.

Rowell began her long-running litigious process when she alleged that Y&R refused to rehire in the role of Drucilla Winters because of her aggressive public calls to increase the number of African-Americans in soap roles. She is on record as stating that racial tension led her to departure Y&R in 2007.

Rowell has now amended her lawsuit against Y&R to also include the daytime serial, “Days of Our Lives.”  Rowell contends in her amendment that she should have been cast by the soap in the role of, Melinda Trask.

In response, Corday Productions filed a motion denying that Rowell’s advocacy was behind their decision to not hire her as Trask.

Their motion states that Rowell simply was not the proper choice to play the minor character of Melinda Trask. They pointed out that the character was onscreen just 20 times, and this role was not in line with Rowell’s stature in the soap world. They also noted that they in fact respect Rowell’s advocacy on behalf of African-American actors.

The motion further states that Corday Productions do not believe that Rowell can establish that she was denied the role due to her advocacy stance.

Rowell’s portrayal of Drucilla Winters was popular among fans, and she played a prominent part of the Winter’s family storylines. In particular she shared an acclaimed storyline with then-newcomer Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm Winters).

Rowell can currently be seen in episodes of, “Mann & Wife,” the Bounce TV comedy. Y&R fans may have also seen her recent appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s show, “Where Are They Now.”
