‘The Young And The Restless’ News: Sally Sussman And Mal Young Are Genoa City’s Newest Power Couple

Some fans of ‘The Young and the Restless‘ have been clamoring about the show in recent years. But, Jill Farren Phelps and Chuck Pratt, Jr. are now no longer connected to CBS’ still top-rated daytime steamer. The addition of executive producer Mal Young and head writer Sally Sussman represent an opportunity for all viewers to take a fresh look at a certain fictional Wisconsin town. Yes, ‘Mally’ is Genoa City’s newest power couple.

Young earned his entertainment credentials across the pond. His BBC work was terrific and visual evidence of his personal style has already become evident within each episode. Sussman is an award-winning writer who has been asked to build upon her past experience. She’s also a direct link to Y&R’s father Bill Bell, who co-founded the show with his wife Lee Phillip Bell in 1973. Honest fans will now offer both new hires time to demonstrate their talent.

The actual number of Y&R viewers who were truly infuriated during Phelps’ tenure is debatable. There’s no way to fully confirm that group’s size, including the citation of fluctuating Nielsen Ratings. Various social media musings often seemed to reflect impulse emotions, rather than solutions to suggested problems, as well.

It appeared as though decision-makers injected Pratt into Y&R in order to shift the spotlight away from Phelps. She became a target of a segment of viewers and claimed-viewers. However, what followed the attacks on that former executive producer was especially revealing. Savvy soap fans saw through the game when a seemingly lesser contingent of viewers, or claimed-viewers, began verbally assaulting anything Pratt wrote.

Phelps’ reign ended earlier this year and Pratt has now taken his keyboard to prime time. Wise souls will see through the bluster if intentional agitators attempt to shift their collective negativity toward Young and Sussman. Every fan has the right to question anything about Y&R. But, balanced minds also recognize that responsibilities exist in real life. The previous point doesn’t have to be explained and isn’t questioned by all who understand what was just implied.

Every soap opera viewer counts. But, envy rubs rough among certain personality types. And then there are others, who value what everyone brings to the stage.
