‘The Young And The Restless’ News: Melissa Claire Egan Doesn’t Write Adam Newman Off Forever, Possible Recast Some Day?

Every loyal viewer of ‘The Young and the Restless’ likely has an opinion about Justin Hartley’s character’s apparent demise. For her part, Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea) believes that there won’t be another Adam Newman. But, the actor who just waved goodbye to her real life friend did leave wiggle room for future storyline developments in recent statements about this major plot event.

“I really don’t think they will (go there), and I’m not just saying that. There are a lot of stories to tell and lots of people here. Chelsea is in mourning right now. I truly don’t think there is going to be another Adam … but, who knows? As of now, I don’t think there is a plan to,” Egan told Michael Fairman.

Fairman is a respected and connected journalist in the industry. His current interview with Egan offers another angle to the evolving Adam story on Y&R. Actors don’t offer the definitive last word on the future of any show. But, Egan’s comments represent her honest opinion and likely do reveal what’s in the near future for her Chelsea’s apparently deceased husband.

From what Egan said, it’s reasonable to conclude that the next six week’s of scripts, which is generally how far ahead a daytime drama shoots episodes in advance, don’t include revelations about Adam still being alive. Egan did note that she thinks there isn’t a current plan to hire another actor to play the part. However, just-revealed seeming departure of co-executive producer and head writer Chuck Pratt, Jr. will surely impact Y&R in varied ways.

Mal Young now heads CBS’ iconic steamer. Whoever has been, or will be hired, to replace Pratt will have significant input into all future storylines. That person will need time to gain her, or his, footing. After that happens and long-term arcs are prepared, a decision about keeping the Adam character on ice, or reviving him from the perceived grave, will surely be addressed.
