‘The Young and the Restless’: Billy Abbott Finally Acts Like a Real Man – Accepts Phyllis Wants Jack

Billy (Jason Thompson) has behaved badly on ‘The Young and the Restless’ for years. Now, after his relationship with Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) was revealed, he appears to have come to his senses. Yes, it’s just one day. But, a variety of factors are in place that gives Billy a chance to distance himself from a chaotic, destructive lifestyle.

Jack (Peter Bergman) met with John (Jerry Douglas) at the Abbott house this week. It’s normal for a son to talk things over with his father. Of course, John has been dead for years. But, this is a soap opera. So, the suspension of disbelief principle holds sway for devoted Y&R viewers.

John’s comments, including the ones about Jack’s past relationship with Jill (Jess Walton), hit home. Generally, John appears when no other characters are present. However, in this scene, Billy arrived while Jack was talking with their dad. Billy couldn’t see the real specter, or the projected image from Jack’s mind, depending upon one’s belief system. But, John sat watching his boys begin to make amends.

Billy initially told Jack that Phyllis was awake and okay. But, his heartfelt apology about ‘Philly’ existing and eye-to-eye, man-to-man, acknowledgment that Phyllis spoke only Jack’s name when she awoke and that she wanted to see him, was powerful. Billy recognized reality and basically offered a verbal surrender. But, he also went one step beyond that.

After some initial quips, Jack stood speechless while Billy apologized for questioning his brother. Billy said that he shouldn’t have doubted Jack’s actions when Phyllis was lying at the bottom of the stairs. That, along with Phyllis’ message about trying to restore her marriage, could mean that ‘Philly’ is truly finished.

‘Phack’ has a chance at revival unless something unforeseen appears. And, as of the moment, Billy probably won’t fight it. Possibly, after all these years, the younger Abbott brother is about to begin acting like an adult consistently. While ‘Philly’ offered a new direction, ‘Phack’s’ revival may well offer everyone a chance at happiness.
