‘General Hospital’ POLL: Will GH Kids Be Aged Up to Teenagers? Is a Mass SORAS Coming to the ABC Soap?

‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers tease that the ABC soap may be ramping up for a big SORAS move that could change out some of our favorite underage actors. Here’s why we think “soap opera rapid aging syndrome” may be percolating over at General Hospital.

The first sign was the Josslyn Jacks recast from Hannah Nordberg to Eden McCoy. That adds three to four years to Joss and puts her as a young teen. That recast put Josslyn way out of alignment with the other kids on GH.

Josslyn was born in 2009 – the daughter of Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) and Jasper Jacks (Ingo Rademacher). She should be around seven, but with the recast, is now 13, almost 14, based on Eden McCoy’s age.

Here’s a look at the same generation of kids and their ages…

Cameron Spencer (Michael Leone) was born in 2004 – he’s the oldest of that GH set at 12 years old. But portrayer Michael is a year younger at 11, but it’s still close.

Spencer Cassadine (Nicolas Bechtel) was born in 2006 – and Nicolas Bechtel is 11. But now he’s out-aged by three to four years by Josslyn who should be younger than both him and Emma.

Jake Spencer (James Nigbor) was born in 2007 – he should be nine by now and the young actor portraying him just turned nine so he’s a perfect match for his character’s age.

Emma Drake (Brooklyn Rae Silzer) was born in 2008 – she’s a full year older than Josslyn. Brooklyn is eight which makes the Joss recast out of alignment with Emma by five to six years.

Aiden Spencer (Jason David) was born in 2010 – he’s supposed to be six and is the only one of this gang of kids younger than Josslyn. Jason looks to be the same age as his character Aiden.

Josslyn’s date of birth on the show is right between Emma and Aiden. She’s nearly the youngest of the six kids in this group, yet is portrayed by the oldest. Will GH leave this disparity in place and ignore the obvious inconsistencies?

Or was Eden McCoy’s casting just the first of many recasts to “age up” this whole crew of kids to make them more viable for teen romance plots? Also, the older the child actors, the more latitude the show has to work them more often and for longer hours.

This has us wondering whether GH is preparing to SORAS the whole crew to match up with Josslyn. They’ve done this before. Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) should be just 13 – he was born in 2003. Yet now he’s old enough to be shagging 43 year old Ava Jerome (Maura West). That’s a huge SORA.

Michael Quartermaine (Chad Duell) should be 19 and is obviously playing closer to 30. Kristina Corinthos (Lexi Ainsworth) should be close to 14 while Molly Lansing (Haley Pullos) should be just 11. Yet we have Kristina shagging her 40+ professor and Molly getting intimate with her boyfriend.

Based on what the show did with Mikey, Morgan, Kristina and Molly, we can likely expect more SORAS for the six to eleven year old crowd. Likely Josslyn was first because Hannah Nordberg had a project outside of GH so it was a perfect opportunity to recast.

We wonder who’s next? The shame is there is some top-notch talent in that group of kids that will be lost if GH showrunners pull a mass SORAS. Brooklyn Rae Silzer is amazing and Nicolas Bechtel is a joy to watch. But with Emma off screen and Nicolas pursuing other projects, will they be aged and recast?
