‘General Hospital’ POLL: Which Actress Played Your Favorite Carly? VOTE!

Iconic ‘General Hospital’ (GH) character Carly Corinthos took Port Charles by storm in 1996 when she flew into town looking for revenge against her biological mother Bobbi Jones (Jacklyn Zeman). The character, who was originally played by Sarah Joy Brown, was unrefined and full of fire. For five years’ fans developed a love-hate relationship with the girl from Florida. As her character become more of a staple, she began to build relationships with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) and Jason Morgan (formally Steve Burton).

This began the Sonny/Carly era of passion, love, and betrayal. While young and without kids, the electricity between these two powerful characters became clear.

In 2001, Brown left her role as Carly and was replaced by Tamara Braun. During this time the role of Carly shifted from focusing on her relationship with her mom and turned to raising children while living in the mob world. Braun took on many emotional storylines; including, divorces from Sonny, the kidnap and possible death of her son Michael (Chad Duell) and being kidnapped by Rick Lancing (Rick Hearst) to point to a few.

The toll of danger, more betrayal and fear for their children continued the rocky road between Carly and Sonny. It was at this time, however, that the loyalty, friendship and true understanding between the two began.

After yet another divorce from Sonny, the role of Carly began to focus on and eventually married another mob boss, Lorenzo Alcazar (Ted King). During this time Braun also left the role, leaving it to Jennifer Bransford for a short period in 2005.

Sonny and Carly took time to grow into their characters independently and developed additional loyalties and love interests.

By the time Carly was replaced by the current portrayer, Laura Wright, later in 2005, Carly as a character was beginning to grow up; becoming a mother yet again and a hotel owner. Even with the time apart and new loves at different points, the pull between Sonny and Carly could not be held off.
