‘General Hospital’ POLL: Is Nikolas Cassadine Port Charles’ Next “Big Bad”

‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers tease that former nice guy Nikolas Cassadine [Tyler Christopher] may be gone for good and he may be Port Charles’ next “big bad” that steps up to fill the void left by Helena Cassadine [Constance Towers] when she died (assuming she really did die).

We’ve all noticed that Nikolas has gone from being a guy who angrily rejected his grandmother’s evil schemes and always tried to do right to someone who seems to be openly embracing evil. What remains to be seen is whether Nikolas is the puppet master or someone else is pulling his strings.

Retaining control of ELQ seems to be central to Nikolas’ evil plans, but why? Nikolas explained it before saying that Helena and her cronies squandered millions of Cassadine cash on her evil schemes and he needed ELQ to cement the Cassadine financial legacy.

That may be true in part but it cannot be the whole story. Nikolas’ major character transformation has been so sudden and so dramatic that some GH spoilers indicate he was under Helena’s control. But with Helena gone (ostensibly for good) it seems like that’s not the case.

GH fans don’t want to accept that Nikolas has gone rotten all on his own but it looks like that might be the case. Has Nikolas just finally accepted that he’s a Cassadine and that means being a baddie? Or was it all the failed romances that broke him?

Nikolas lost the love of his life Emily, then Britt Westbourne [Kelly Thiebaud] did him dirty, and now he’s got scheming Hayden Barnes [Rebecca Budig] at his side and she’ll soon turn on him over the thwarted assassination he ordered against her.

Nik played so dirty to get his hands on enough ELQ stock to take over the company and now it looks like he’s going to have Jason Morgan [Billy Miller] under his control via blackmail over the MetroCourt balcony incident – so it seems like there’s no end in sight to his bad deeds.

Can anyone pull Nikolas back from the brink? Hayden isn’t the kind of gal to encourage Nikolas to be his best self – she’s more of a partner in crime type woman. And Liz Webber [Rebecca Herbst] conspired with Nikolas, so she’s no good as a moral compass right now.

That only leaves Nikolas’ mom Laura Spencer [Genie Francis] as a possibility to get Nikolas back on the right track. However, that may not even work. We’ve seen Laura go along with Nikolas’ schemes – even though she wasn’t happy about it – so can she push back hard enough to straighten him out?

Is there any hope at all for the redemption of Nikolas or is he the new uber-villain Port Charles doesn’t want, but needs, in order to keep the drama alive?
