‘General Hospital’ followers and Brenda Barrett-lovers! Did you hear the latest gossip? There was a very recent, but extremely cryptic Tweet from “GH” alum Vanessa Marcil [Brenda Barrett] about her upcoming ‘new role’!
Vanessa’s been practicing at a local California firearms range handling what looks like a Tech-9, rapid-fire, assault weapon!!
This reporter is wondering… could she possibly be ‘gunning’ for Sonny Corinthos [Maurice Benard]? Nah… I don’t think so either. Or, is she ‘maybe’ going to be portraying a bank robber or some other gun enthusiast with a death wish?
Speculation about her new role is at an all-time high and is running amuck in my brain! Could her new role be:
- A rogue cop?
- A rookie cop?
- A seasoned cop?
- A mob princess perhaps?
- A Bodyguard?
Is she on the right side of the law (a good guy), or on the wrong side of the law (a bad guy)? Hmmm… the speculation is “high”, indeed.
Looking back over Vanessa’s distinguished resume, she has had some long-running roles. For instance:
- NYPD Blue [Detective Carmen Olivera] from 2001 – 2003 (2 episodes)
- Las Vegas [Samantha “Sam” Marquez] from 2003 – 2008
- Crossing Jordan [cross-over from Las Vegas] from 2004 – 2005
She’s also starred in two Hallmark Channel movies:
- The Nanny Express [Kate Hewitt] in 2009
- Stranded in Paradise [Tess Nelson] in 2014
What did catch this reporter’s eye though, and this is from way back in her career, during her first hiatus from General Hospital, and the role of Brenda Barrett, in 1998, Vanessa had a role on CBS’ Beverly Hills, 90210 as Gina Kincaid, for an impressive 37 episodes!
I also noticed, but didn’t remember, that Vanessa won a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category in 2003, for the role of the ever over-dramatic, sometimes annoying, Brenda Barrett.
