‘The Young and the Restless’ Plot Spoilers Revealed in Jill Farren Phelps, Chuck Pratt Interview

“The Young and the Restless” executive producer Jill Farren Phelps and her co-producer and head writer Chuck Pratt recently sat down for an interview with TV Insider and revealed some major plot spoilers. These two are shaking up Y&R with crazy storylines including several recent catastrophes and killings. The two had previously worked on General Hospital and are now riling up fans with some of their controversial plots. Here’s a look at the “Young and the Restless” spoilers that cropped up during the interview.

#1 Phyllis will lead the charge to sort out the doppelganger plot

Pratt revealed that in the weeks and months to come, Phyllis Summers [Gina Tognoni] will investigate the two Jacks and will be on the forefront of figuring out who is who and where the real Jack Abbott [Peter Bergman] has gone. She will start to realize things aren’t right and then look back at things that didn’t ring true to build a theory that faux Jack isn’t who everyone believes him to be. Phyllis will discuss her theory but the others involved will take more convincing.

#2 Victor will ultimately be held accountable for the fake Jack farce

Fake Jake (aka Yack) has been telling a lot of lies and has been sleeping with Phyllis, wife of the real Jack and many are comparing this to rape. In essence, it is, since Phyllis is being tricked into having sex with a virtual stranger. It’s almost like a roofie in disguise. According to Pratt, once Phyllis figures out that she’s been taken advantage of, she will look to hold someone accountable and the obvious person is Victor Newman [Eric Braeden].

#3 Michael’s cancer story will take an unexpected direction

When Pratt joined the show, he was less than thrilled with the Michael Baldwin [Christian LeBlanc] prostate cancer storyline – not because he doesn’t like cancer plots but because he didn’t like that “all the women in the story were sitting around talking about erections and stuff.” But, he also said that Michael and Lauren Fenmore Baldwin [Tracey Bregman] were boring and needed a shake up. He has decided to take the cancer story in a new direction, though, and says it won’t be what fans expect.

#4 Ashley will get her own featured storyline

Since returning to Y&R, Ashley Abbott [Eileen Davidson] has been an ancillary player in other storylines – apparently at her request. But Pratt and Phelps plan on developing a storyline just for her. They want to set Ashley up to be an equal alongside her brother Jack and ex-hubby Victor. One idea the co-producers are considering is exploring a mother-daughter plot to allow Ashley and daughter Abby Newman [Melissa Ordway] to deepen and test their relationship dynamics.

#5 Dylan and Sharon will solidify as a couple

Pratt plans to explore the new relationship between Dylan McAvoy [Steve Burton] and Sharon Newman [Sharon Case]. Pratt says that Sharon has a had a hard time and “needs saving” and that Dylan is a “really solid guy who will be very helpful to her.” He says this is a clean slate for both Sharon and Dylan since he’s also had a rough go of it and wasn’t treated very well when he first came to Genoa City. So don’t look for Sharon to get back with Nick anytime soon!

It sounds like there are exciting things to come. During his tenure at General Hospital, Pratt created some polarizing characters that have become solid fan favorites including Sam Morgan [Kelly Monaco], Ric Lansing [Rick Hearst] and Faith Roscoe [Cynthia Preston]. Pratt may become, in addition to Phelps, another show runner at Y&R that fans will love to hate. But one thing is certain – the ride won’t be boring!
