‘The Young And The Restless’ Interview: Thad Luckinbill Discusses J.T. Returning To Y&R

“The Young and the Restless” alumni Thad Luckinbill sat down with Soap Opera Digest to chat about what he had been doing since he left the soap a few years ago.  Thad is the real life husband to “Y&R” Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman).  He left the daytime drama to explore prime time acting opportunities. It looks like it was a great move for him, too; he has been a guest star of many prime -time shows from “Law & Order” to “Criminal Minds.”  Even though J.T. has been away from Genoa City for years, long-time fans can’t help but hope that he would agree to make a special one-day appearance at least.

Thad has been busy working on various prime-time guest appearances. He was honored to appear on “The Good Lie” alongside Reese Witherspoon and noted that Reese was amazing to work with and was always so kind and helpful. He also hoped the when he appeared on “Criminal Minds” he would run into Shamar Moore- but he said they weren’t filming on the same day. “He’s a great guy. I miss hanging out with him,” Thad said.

Thad and Amelia often watch the show together, so he is aware of the current storylines and characters. He noted the show seems to be doing wonderful, “The writers continue to write powerful stuff,” and Luckinbill joked that the show survived getting rid of J.T. He was worried that Victoria wouldn’t survive the break up with him, but she has done well. Thad added that after he left, she hopped right in to a relationship with Billy Abbott (Biller Miller, Burgess Jenkins). In fact, Luckinbill revealed that they still hang out often with Billy Miller, Doug Davidson, Joshua Morrow, and Daniel Goddard.

As for if Thad Luckinbill would consider reprising the role of J.T., he said “Absolutely.” He noted the show had recently contacted him about coming back for a short stint, and the scheduling was not good for him.  Thad teased that soon fans will see J.T. in Genoa City in the near future.
