Ready to talk about your favorite and least favorite storylines from “The Young and the Restless,” “Bold and the Beautiful,” “General Hospital” and “Days of Our Lives”? Why not rant and rave about writing, wardrobe and whatever else bugged us or something we liked this week on our favorite soaps – and let’s dish on our favorite characters and their best moments this week in daytime drama land!
Where do we start? First with Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) – she’s not a McAvoy yet! Why, why, why hasn’t Sharon been given a physical examination? Why didn’t she have one upon entering the Fairview? Doesn’t ANYONE in Genoa City wonder why Sharon isn’t showing? And why does Patty Cakes have access to Sharon’s room? And why would the doctor administer medication to Sharon if she thinks she’s pregnant? Something stinks at Fairview!
Speaking of stinking – since when does the FBI jump when Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) snaps his fingers? They completed an investigation into a cyber-attack in a matter of – hours? They’re good – but are they THAT good? Victor may be a powerful man but we highly doubt the Federal Bureau of Investigation is gonna jump when he calls.
If “Y&R” writers think viewers will tolerate one more doppelganger or twin storyline – they need to think again. It may be interesting to see if Ian Ward (Ray Wise) has bribed or brainwashed a bunch of people at the prison to let him come and go as he pleases. Who is the guy Paul arrested? Is it Ian – or someone else? We’ll wait and see how that unfolds though – so we’re still on the fence.
Two more things – and this is minor but oh so annoying. Why does Adam Newman (Justin Hartley) call Chelsea Lawson Newman (Melissa Claire Egan) “Babe” more often than he uses her name? Victor tends to do this quite often with Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). He’ll call her “Sweetheart” or “My darling” – not just once as a term of endearment – but like Adam – more often than using Nikki’s name. And the other thing that bugs us is Phyllis Abbott (Gina Tognoni) dropping the “g” from the end of words. Are we the only ones that notice these things? Walkin’, talkin’, breathin’ – it sounds like a bad country song.
But a couple of raves for “The Young and the Restless” this week! It’s nice to see Phyllis’s hair color change from a deep auburn – which wasn’t bad but not quite red enough to garner the nickname “Red” – to more of a light auburn. It’s very becoming and TPTB in hair and make-up need to keep it that way. We also are giving out brownie points to Billy Abbott (Burgess Jenkins) when he said, “Lurch doesn’t get brownie points” when referring to something decent Victor did. We love hearing Billy Boy Abbott give back as good as he gets! Lurch!
We’re going to rave first because the writers are FINALLY moving a little bit into other storylines – we didn’t get hit with the Caroline/Ridge/Thomas and Steffy/Liam/Wyatt/Ivy ONLY show this week. It was great to see Quinn Fuller (Rena Sofer) stand up to Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) and give it to him over his favoritism toward Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton). A rant within a rave? Bill telling Quinn SHE has no sense of right from wrong? AND…we’re surprised Quinn didn’t deck Bill when he told her that he’ll never give Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) any props – because – “You’re all up in his DNA.” Say what?? At least Katie Spencer (Heather Tom) has been the voice of reason. Hopefully Katie will be a buffer between Bill and Wyatt and Spencer Publishing will create a fashion division.
Rants? Actually we’re pretty pleased with “B&B” right now! If TPTB keep the show moving forward and don’t keep shoving Ridge/Caroline/Thomas down our throats EVERY single day we’ll stay pretty happy. We want more of Rick Forrester (Jacob Young) and his beautiful bride Maya Avant Forrester (Karla Mosley) and what happened to Thorne Forrester (Windsor Harmon)? We’re pleased to see Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) back too! Please, keep rotating the storylines a bit more! Other than Bill Spencer’s ego and favoritism toward Liam – and Brooke Forrester’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) constant butting her nose into everything – there isn’t too much to rant about this week. Brooke – please – Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) has revealed the truth to Caroline Forrester (Linsey Godfrey) – now back off and let them figure out the rest.
“GH” deserves a few raves this week so we’ll start there. Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig) and Nickolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher) playing “who wore it better” with their Floating Rib bibs had us laughing. It’s about time we had some light-hearted romance. Nothing too serious – yet. It’s great to see a relationship developing in a somewhat normal manner – as normal as you get on a soap opera. They’re both still wary of each other but they have great chemistry! We were also pleased to see a tender brother/sister moment between Julian and Ava when he wished her well as the new head of the Jerome Family. No animosity – Julian Jerome (William deVry) is out and little sister Ava Jerome (Maura West) is in. And of course – our favorite moment of the week – Franco (Roger Howarth) asking Nina Clay (Michelle Stafford) to move in with him. Now they just need to find a place. Maybe Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin) will finally be able to sell Silas’s apartment at some point. Wouldn’t that be interesting living in your dead ex-husband’s apartment – where he was murdered – and you were a suspect in said murder – with your new guy – who was also a suspect in said murder.
“General Hospital” rants – there are quite a few but let’s touch on them briefly. When Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) nearly coded in the ICU no one called for a crash cart, Liz Webber (Rebecca Herbst) didn’t go running for any one? No one even CALLED a code blue? Okay – it wasn’t exactly a code blue – but that room should have been full of house staff and the family should have been hustled out into the hall. Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) offering himself up as a trade for Avery? Oh please! If Ava plays her cards right she’ll get both Morgan and Avery. Even if she doesn’t get Morgan would she sacrifice Avery – and Kiki – for him? One more – why did Carly Jacks (Laura Wright) and Sonny think by getting married then Carly would automatically get custody of Avery? Ava may not be mother of the year, but all the charges against her have been dropped – albeit with prejudice – and Carly isn’t exactly mother of the year either.
A sad ending to the week – Eve Donavan (Kassie DePavia) at her daughter Paige Larson’s (True O’Brien) funeral. It was all just so sad. It was a rough way for “DOOL” fans to walk away from the week. “Days of Our Lives” viewers did find some simple things that got under their skin. The biggest annoyance seems to be all the dark doom and gloom in Abby Deveraux (Kate Mansi) and Ben Olson’s (Justin Gaston) apartment. We’re also bugged by the flashing red sign – and blinking blue lights – in their apartment window. Please, Ben and Abby – pay the electric bill and get some light in that apartment. And TPTB need to lessen the frequency of the flashing lights.
Wardrobe was talked about quite a bit this week – mainly Andre DiMera’s (Thaao Penghlis) jacket – a few fans commented that it looked as if it came out of a garbage can. What happened to all those oh so fashionable suits Andre is known for? Did he lose them?
