Michelle Stafford (Nina, “General Hospital”) posted a Periscope on Twitter on Tuesday, she titled, “Message to the Fans.” She opened her live stream by saying that social media is a neat platform in which fans can talk to actors with a click of a button. She realizes that sometimes actors get their feelings hurt when a fan is rude to them. She said instead of threatening violence, there is a better way to address the problem.
Michelle said that she was not everyone’s cup of tea. She said it all right not to love her. It is acceptable to tell her that you don’t like her, but not to be surprised if she blocks you for rudeness. After all, that is her right to mute or block people she finds unpleasant.
She said there had been some ‘funky stuff between actors and fans lately’, and it has to stop. She expressed her appreciation for all her fans- both “Young and the Restless” and “General Hospital.” She said if it wasn’t for her fans, she would not have a job. She explained that actors- as a whole- tend to be a sensitive bunch. She said that sensitivity was what makes them great actors, but it always is the reason they are hurt by fans hateful comments.
She wanted to clear up a rumor about “Y&R.” She said she loved her time on “Young and the Restless.” She said she loves the actors and crew on the show. She left the role because she felt that she did everything she could with Phyllis Summers that she could, and felt it was time for her to move from that role. She praised Gina Tognoni for making Phyllis her role and making the character fresh and exciting again.
She said she loves portraying Nina Clay. She said Nina is complex and difficult to understand. She is naïve yet very angry that her mother is the reason for many of her problems. Her mother, Madeline, is evil to the core- and will stop at nothing until she either gets Nina’s money, or it kills her. She laughed and said, “Nina is just a little over the top, but I am loving very minute of being her.”
